Alpha lipoic acid is a sulfur-containing compound naturally present in the human body, soluble in both water and fat. In food it occurs only in small amounts - mostly in spinach, potatoes and offal, where it is bound to proteins. It should not be confused with alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), an omega-3 fatty acid found in plant oils.

Alpha lipoic acid occurs in two forms: R and S. The R-form is the one produced by the body; synthetic alpha lipoic acid is usually a mixture of both. Alpha-NeuroMit contains only the R-form, without the inactive S-form as filler. The formula was developed at the German MSE laboratory of Dr. Franz Enzmann, and manufacturing takes place in Germany to GMP standard - good manufacturing practice covering control from raw material to finished pack.

Ingredients

R-alpha lipoic acid; capsule shell: hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, neutral methacrylic acid copolymer; bulking agent: microcrystalline cellulose; anti-caking agent: magnesium salts of fatty acids.

Suggested use

1 capsule daily on an empty stomach - about 30 minutes before the first meal or at least 2 hours after a meal.

The manufacturer recommends taking R-alpha lipoic acid separately from other supplements, medication and meals, as they affect its absorption.
