What is White Mulberry?
White mulberry Latin Morus alba is a deciduous tree in the mulberry family (Moraceae) and is native to China. It began to be cultivated in Europe around the 11th century. In practice, it is the only mulberry species found in Poland. Apart from the leaves, the most sought-after raw material is the white mulberry fruit. The light-coloured dried fruit of this plant resembles blackberries or raspberries in shape. They are predominantly sweet in taste, with occasional mildly sour ones. The fruit is widely used in medicinal preparations, mainly for its blood sugar-lowering properties.

Well-dried white mulberry fruit is a treasure trove of anthocyanins, known for their anti-inflammatory properties. Furthermore, due to their relatively high resveratrol content, they can also lower blood pressure and reduce the risk of heart disease. The soluble fibre in mulberry helps to control blood sugar levels and reduce so-called bad cholesterol, while the insoluble fibre is essential for digestive health. The active ingredients in mulberry have proven hypoglycaemic properties. Studies have proven that it slows down the digestion of carbohydrates in the small intestine and thus lowers their blood levels. Thanks to this property, white mulberry is used to treat abnormalities related to blood sugar control. A group that should be particularly interested in the use of white mulberry is people at risk of diabetes and those who have already been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.
