Dried Hericium (Hericium soplata) is suitable for gastronomic use. Hericium mushrooms have been used in traditional Chinese medicine for thousands of years. Due to its polysaccharide content, it adds vitality and generally strengthens the organ. Hericium is also a very tasty mushroom used in salads, soups, risottos, and is excellent as an accompaniment to meat.
Hericium - what is it?
Hericium, or coneflower, is a genus of edible fungi belonging to the coneflower family (Hericiaceae). It grows naturally on dead or dying wood - the fruiting bodies are attached to the host tree. Occasionally, however, soplolly occurs on living trees, particularly American beech.
Hericium is characterised by its cream colour (which changes to brown over time) and fleshy structure with spines. The fruiting bodies have a diameter that ranges from 5 to 40 cm.
Properties of Hericium:
Hericium sopranoides contains bioactive substances with, among other things, anti-cancer effects and alleviating the symptoms and effects of Parkinson's and Alzheimer's diseases.
Hericium acts on:
- Nervous system - supports nerve cell production and brain function. It is used as an adjunctive therapy in the treatment of diseases of the nervous system, including multiple sclerosis and the aforementioned Parkinson's and Alzheimer's diseases, as it has the effect of improving memory and concentration and improving thought processes.
- Gastrointestinal system - Echinacea has a protective effect on the liver, intestines and stomach. It protects the gastric mucosa from damage and stomach ulcers. In a 2013 study in China, it was also observed that soplite extract reduced the size of ulcers in rats.
- Immune system - boosts immunity by supporting the production of interferons and therefore: white blood cells.
- Psychiatric problems - soplatinum is also used as a therapy support in the treatment of depression, anxiety disorders, sleep problems, neurosis, chronic stress.
- Blood system - Hericium reduces the risk of atherosclerosis, lowers the level of bad cholesterol in the blood.

Basic preparation:
Pour hot water over the required amount and leave to swell for approximately 30 minutes. Recommended preparation time approx. 10-15 minutes.
The coneflower is an edible mushroom. It has a delicate, slightly sweet flavour that resembles that of crab or lobster meat. It can be eaten raw, cooked or dried, or fried in a coating in a pan. Some people pour boiling water over it and consume it as a tea.
