Wakoucha - black tea from Japan
The flavour of this black leaf tea is refined, delicately floral with hints of honey and spice. The word 'kou-cha' 紅茶 translates as 'crimson-coloured tea'. This term wakoucha owes its name to the soft Japanese water, which was dyed by the drier to a shade of dark red with a touch of blue. This is also why it was referred to as red tea in the past. When brewed with medium-hard water, more typical of European countries, the wakoucha infusion takes on an intense dark amber colour. Moya Wakoucha originates from the Mie region on the island of Honsiu.

Properties of Wakoucha
Black wakoucha tea will prove itself as a companion to meals and desserts, the sweetness of which it will break with its flavour. Like all black tea, wakoucha is dried after harvesting and then subjected to a fermentation process, which distinguishes it from green tea. The result of this process is its dark colour, slightly earthy taste and lower caffeine content than, for example, in green sencha. Black tea has a supportive effect on the digestive system. An infusion of wakoucha can be a source of amino acids, beta carotene, folic acid, potassium, calcium and phosphorus. As there are still few farmers in Japan who choose to produce black tea, wakoucha remains an uncommon and rare dried tea.
